Practihc, a European Commission 5th Framework project called Practihc, has launched a free software tool called the Trial Protocol Tool, which supports the production of a high quality research protocol for a trial. It provides a checklist of issues that should be considered when writing a protocol, examples of how these issues have been addressed by other researchers, a library of full protocols and teaching materials. It also provides access to related websites and is available in English and Spanish. A paper on the tool was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology (J Clinical Epidemiology 2006; 59: 1127-1133).
